Built on a proud tradition of farming
John Brigham purchased the farm on Fitchburg Turnpike in the 1820s. The farm was a typical New England subsistence farm for several generations. John had a few horses, cows, pigs, and chickens. He raised food for home consumption and sold any surplus.
Early in the 1900s, Harry Brigham became a market gardener. He grew rhubarb and other crops which he sold locally and at the Boston wholesale market.
His son, George Brigham, continued growing crops for local and wholesale markets. He set up a stand at the farm, which would grow into Brigham Farm Stand today.
After the Second World War, George specialized in sweet corn, leasing a number of parcels of farm land to expand his fields
In 1972, George’s children Jane Brigham Bailey and Charles (Chip) Poutasse, began operating the farm and farm stand. To this day, they sell produce on-site, to local farms, and at Farmers’ Markets in the area
